Nguyen Duc Diem Quynh (otherwise known as Quynh Lam) / contemporary artist

Quynh graduated from Fine Arts Association of Ho Chi Minh city in 2007 and University of Architecture of Ho Chi Minh City in 2012. In 2017, Quynh was granted by the Fulbright Scholarship from the US Government and she is now pursuing an MFA of Studio Art, University of Tennessee School of Art, Knoxville, United States.

Her concern revolves around historical memories through postwar invisible traumas. From her family’s migration, Quynh’s artwork is a combination of conceptual photography and documentary video. She has an artist book from the 'Vietnam Artists Book Project' of Indochina Arts Partnership, which was sponsored by the Danish Cultural Development and Exchange Fund, and is archived in the MoMA library, Yamamoto Gendai, Bay Library, Salon Saigon, Dia Project, UCLA library, UTK John C. Hodges Library, Special Collections, and other art hubs. In addition, her works have been featured in many publications: Imago Mundi–Vietnam: New Winds Collection (2015), Saigon Artbook (edition 6, 2016), XEM (issue 7, 2017), Inlen (issue 2, 2017), and other domestic and international exhibitions.

'I enjoy interpreting contemplative portraits of history by incorporating various media including data visualizations, documentary videos, and photographic installations. My artwork examines the connections between my family history and my perception as a woman in Vietnam through identity, memory, and trauma. In order to challenge the roles of women in Vietnamese society, I use organic pigments in my painting that directly engages with social issues as a way to define, but also question, the cultural link between women and nature.'
